Is Juvederm® Right for You?

As we age, wrinkles and lines tend to develop on the face, neck, and other parts of the body. Unfortunately, these wrinkles can be difficult to hide. Effective treatment is available if you are dealing with unwanted signs of aging. One of the most popular cosmetic treatments available to people with lines and wrinkles is Juvéderm®, a dermal filler.

What is Juvéderm®?

Juvéderm® is an injectable gel that is available in several different formulations to meet the needs of virtually any patient. The formulations available include:

  • Juvéderm® – Standard Juvéderm® treatment with hyaluronic acid is designed to treat moderate or severe lines and wrinkles. This formulation is administered under a local anesthetic.
  • Juvéderm® XC – Juvéderm® XC contains lidocaine in addition to hyaluronic acid, which eliminates the need for an additional anesthetic and shortens the length of the treatment session.
  • Juvéderm® Ultra and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus – Juvéderm® Ultra and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus use a more advanced formula to provide patients with more effective results.

All of these formulas have been approved by the FDA.

How Does it Work?

Depending on your type of Juvéderm® treatment, you may or may not receive a local anesthetic before the injection. If you receive a local anesthetic, it may take up to 30 minutes to become effective. During the procedure, a cosmetic doctor will use a thin needle to inject the filler into the desired areas. The fillers will add volume to your skin and reduce the appearance of any lines and wrinkles. Juvéderm® also adds moisture to the skin for a more youthful appearance.

Treatment with Juvéderm® is usually complete within 15 minutes unless a local anesthetic is necessary. If you must have a local anesthetic, the entire procedure will typically be completed in less than an hour. Once the procedure is complete, patients can usually return to normal activities without downtime. Pain and discomfort both during and after the procedure are minimal. Depending on the type of treatment chosen, you may enjoy the benefits of Juvéderm® treatment for up to a year. Results may last longer if you receive a follow-up injection within a few weeks of your initial treatment.
