How to Improve Vein Health Naturally

Vein problems, such as varicose veins, spider veins, and deep vein thrombosis, can happen to anyone at any time. Reduce your risk of experiencing these types of vascular problems by doing the following things to improve your vein health.

Drink More Water

The amount of water you drink on a daily basis could affect the health of your veins. If you become dehydrated your blood tends to thicken. Thicker blood does not flow through the veins properly. When this happens, it puts you at risk of having the walls of veins collapse which causes venous insufficiency or developing blood clots.

Keep your veins healthy by drinking at least eight glasses of water a day. Eight glasses of water is often the minimum recommended amount to help you stay properly hydrated.

Avoid Taking Hot Baths

Hot baths can be relaxing, but they can cause numerous vein problems. Problems with your veins develop because the heat from the bath causes the veins to swell and it can increase the likelihood that the blood will start to pool. These problems can lead to the development of blood clots.

To avoid these problems it is recommended that you don’t make it a habit to soak in a hot tub. An occasional hot bath won’t cause problems, but if you take one daily it could cause you to experience numerous vein problems.

Eat a Healthy Diet

What you eat really impacts your vein health. Incorporate the following dietary tips into your day-to-day life to naturally improve the health of your veins:

  • Reduce the amount of sodium you consume. Too much sodium can thicken the blood and cause the tissues surrounding your veins to retain water which can then cause damage. Don’t just avoid salt, look at labels and try to eliminate foods that are high in sodium such as canned foods, processed meats, and salad dressings.
  • Eat foods that are high in fiber. Increased fiber intake can reduce the number of venous problems such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure. You can increase your fiber intake by eating more fruits, using whole wheat flour, and adding more brown rice, oatmeal, and air-popped popcorn to your diet.
  • Try to incorporate foods and drinks that contain high amounts of bioflavonoids into your diet. Bioflavonoids have been known to help reduce your risk of developing painful varicose veins. Foods that are high in bioflavonoids include broccoli, spinach, strawberries, bell peppers, mangoes, and some teas.
