How Sclerotherapy Works
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that involves injecting a specific type of solution directly into the affected veins in question. That solution then causes the veins to scar, which forces blood in a patient’s body to reroute through other, healthier veins.
Once that scarred vein has a chance to collapse, it is then reabsorbed into the nearby tissue – eventually fading away entirely.
Generally speaking, most patients find that their spider veins begin to fade within just a few short weeks of their Sclerotherapy treatment. Depending on the severity of the veins, it could take up to a month (or more) to see the full results.

Does Sclerotherapy Hurt?

In the vast majority of all situations, however, a doctor would simply recommend over-the-counter pain relievers to help reduce the inflammation and any discomfort that it brought with it.
In very uncommon situations, it is also possible to have a mild allergic reaction to Sclerotherapy. But again, this is something that a patient would discuss with their medical professional prior to the procedure.
Will it Remove my Spider Veins Permanently?
Because of the way that Sclerotherapy works, it does tend to remove spider veins in a patient permanently. However, it’s important to keep in mind that Sclerotherapy is considered the ideal treatment option for “small spider and varicose veins.” This means that depending on the severity of a patient’s condition, multiple treatments may be necessary to really enjoy the full effect.
