Skin Looks Younger with the Juvederm® Cosmetic Procedure

How you age is often determined by hereditary factors, but you don’t have to surrender to your genetic makeup. A number of cosmetic procedures are available that can help to reduce the look of lines, furrows and depressions and give your facial skin the younger, smoother look of youth. Juvederm® is an FDA-approved dermal filler that is safe and effective for reducing lines that occur with aging.

What Is Juvederm®?

Juvederm® is a non-animal-based, synthetic form of hyaluronic acid, a compound that is similar to the natural substance found in the human body that gives fullness and flexibility to tissues. It can be injected into the skin to fill in deep lines and depressions to provide an overall smoother appearance.

What Can Juvederm® Do?

Dermal fillers such as Juvederm® can reduce the deep lines that develop from the nose to the mouth, lines from the mouth to the chin and lines above the upper lip. It is also used to smooth the deep furrows that occur between the brows, to give more volume to cheekbones or cheeks and, in some cases, under the eyes. These fillers are also used to make the lips fuller and to reduce the look of veins on the back of hands.

What Is the Procedure?

The patient’s skin is cleaned thoroughly, and the area is numbed to prevent discomfort. The filler is then injected into the affected area, and the physician may massage the injected gel into the most advantageous position. Generally, there is little discomfort, and the procedure takes as little as 15 minutes to complete. It takes a few days for the compound to settle into the tissues for the full smoothing effect. Patients can immediately resume normal activities.

What Are the Side Effects?

Patients may experience some bruising and swelling at the injection site, which dissipates over a period of days. Juvederm® has been determined to be safe to use. However, some patients may experience allergic reactions to the substance. If redness, increased swelling or other symptoms appear, contact your doctor.

How Long Does It Last?

Juvederm® treatments last from 6 to 9 months. After this period, the physician can do additional treatments to continue the improved facial appearance.
