BOTOX® and Dermal Fillers
When you decide it is time to take a stand against fine lines and wrinkles, you have several non-surgical options. BOTOX® and dermal fillers can make you look younger almost immediately.
BOTOX® vs. Dermal Fillers – What is the Difference?
Doctors Alastair and Jean Carruthers discovered that BOTOX® could be used to counteract the signs of aging. Today, this neuromodulator is frequently used to smooth wrinkles and fine lines. Dr. Alastair Carruthers states that these treatments are successful because they cause the muscles in the face to temporarily relax. Patients usually see results within two to three days.
BOTOX® can be used to treat the lines in the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, the lines surrounding the lips and various other wrinkles resulting from facial expressions. If you are in your late 20s or early 30s, you may choose this product to assist in the prevention of wrinkles. If you are in your 40s or beyond, you may choose this method to prevent new lines from forming and soften any existing lines.
Dermal fillers do not relax the muscles in your face; instead, they actually fill in these creases. Dermal fillers can eliminate frown lines and add fullness to your lips.
Juvederm® contains hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in your body. This substance fills and smoothes surface wrinkles, and plumps up your skin. Juvederm® can successfully smooth facial folds as well. Areas commonly treated with Juvederm® include the wrinkles and folds around the nose, mouth and on the forehead.
There are two kinds of Juvederm®:
- Juvederm Ultra®, which is ideal for adding fullness to the lips and for filling moderately deep wrinkles.
- Juvederm XC® is denser, which makes it the perfect choice for deeper facial folds.
Belotero® is also a hyaluronic acid that integrates into the skin’s tissue. Although some fillers rebuild facial structure and volume, Belotero® is designed to treat moderate-to-severe lines and wrinkles that are ‘etched-in’ (e.g.,vertical lines surrounding the lips).
Radiesse® is made up of tiny calcium particles that are suspended in a gel. When Radiesse® is injected beneath the skin, it smooths wrinkles and stimulates the skin to produce collagen. This is important because collagen is the protein responsible for youthful-looking skin.
While each of these dermal fillers has distinctive characteristics, overall, the majority of dermal fillers work similarly. Most fillers plump and then lift the skin. Most dermal fillers stimulate the body’s production of collagen. A dermal filler's results are almost instantaneous. Dermal fillers can last from a few months to a couple of years before a touch up treatment is necessary.
Dermal Fillers and BOTOX® can be Used Simultaneously
At our South Jersey Cosmetic Center, Dr. Dietzek can use BOTOX® and dermal fillers simultaneously. Some patients find that the combination of the two gives the dermal filler a longer lasting effect. The wrinkles surrounding the nose and mouth, as well as the sagging skin in the cheeks and jaw line are usually treated using dermal fillers; whereas, BOTOX® helps manage the deep furrows on the forehead, crow’s feet and lines around the mouth.
